ASBURY PARK -- The community is coming together to raise money for the family of Jamar Small, who was gunned down Sunday in broad daylight.

The fundraiser, posted on gofundme.com, has already raised $2,400 of its $10,000 goal as of Wednesday afternoon.

The donations from the online fundraiser, started on behalf of the family, will help cover funeral costs, the donation page said.

Small was a 2010 graduate of Asbury Park High School where he helped lead the football team to three straight sectional titles. He continued his football career at Texas Southern University in Houston, graduating in 2014 with a degree in business administration.

Throughout his short-lived athletic career, Small continued to return to Asbury Park and served as a mentor to the young athletes.

"His goal: to pay it forward, to coach young athletes in Asbury Park and steer them away from drugs and gangs - just as someone had done for him," the gofundme page says.

Small was shot and killed on Summerfield Avenue shortly before noon on Sunday. No arrests have been made, but authorities are urging members of the public to come forward if they have any information on the shooting.
