LONG BRANCH -- A portion of the city's new boardwalk was vandalized on Sunday night, police said.
Police Director Jason Roebuck said a stretch of the boardwalk had paint dumped on it, railings were pulled down and a ramp had tire marks left on it from what appears to be an ATV-like vehicle.
Roebuck said he's not sure what time it happened Sunday night, but a construction crew discovered the damage Monday morning.
Workers are nearing completion of a new $14 million boardwalk on the beachfront's south end. The Long Branch boardwalk is the last boardwalk destroyed by Hurricane Sandy at the Jersey Shore to be rebuilt.
"Everything was fixed, so there's no lasting damage," Roebuck said of the vandalism. "But, obviously, you don't want to see it again."
The police department is asking anyone with information to call 732-222-1000.
"If anyone sees anything, if you see anyone riding anything down there that doesn't belong, give us a call," Roebuck said.
