UNION BEACH -- A gunman clad in dark-colored clothing and a ski mask robbed a poker game being held at the Union Beach firehouse on Saturday night, police said.
Police Chief Charles Ervin said at around 8:45 p.m. a man entered the side door of the firehouse on Union Avenue, displayed a gun and fled with $3,000.
Someone had rented out the firehouse to host a card game, Ervin said.
The man was wearing dark-colored jeans and hooded sweatshirt, and had a ski mask pulled over his face, the chief said.
Ervin said no one was injured in the robbery, and there is no threat to the community.
Ervin said he did not know at this point if the gunman had any knowledge that the card game was being held at the firehouse.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Union Beach Fire Co. #1 said all firefighters were safe and the building was secure.
No additional information was available Monday morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Shawn Gilkison at 732-264-0313.
"It's an active investigation," Ervin said, "and we have high hopes we're going to clear this up."
