Now you can surf the web for free in Asbury Park.

ASBURY PARK -- Ahead of the 2017 summer season, officials announced Tuesday free Wi-Fi is available along the beachfront.

"Our new wireless network brings much-desired connectivity to residents and visitors, giving them more freedom to enjoy our wonderful beaches," Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn said in a press release. "This Wi-Fi access means residents and visitors don't have to choose between a day at the boardwalk and getting their work done - or keeping tabs on their favorite team."

The free internet access covers the entire length of the boardwalk and the beach area.

To hook up to the Wi-Fi, beach-goers have to select "AP Boardwalk" on their device's wireless network list. It will then prompt users to sign up.

The Wi-Fi project was entirely funded by prominent boardwalk developer Madison Marquette as part of an agreement with the city. The developer gives the city approximately $100,000 annually to assist in beach-related needs, such as trash removal.

Officials estimate the project cost just under $45,000.

The internet access uses an enhanced security system. Officials also suggest users log out of the service when they are finished.

Asbury Park joins Seaside Park in providing free internet access to its beach visitors.
