Alt-rock, indie-folk, spoken word and more coming to new Cookman Avenue venue
ASBURY PARK -- As Asbury Park continues to deepen its arts footprint, and a new venue called House Of Independents prepares to open, the Cookman Avenue spot has announced its first crop of shows.
Two spoken word performances with punk renaissance man Henry Rollins, which were first revealed last month, highlight the pre-New Year lineup. But a set from California alt-rock vets Fishbone will open the venue Nov. 24, and "The Walking Dead" TV star/indie-folk singer Emily Kinney will also take the stage.
A string of "The Christmas Carol" performances will bolster the holiday season and The Coney Island Circus Sideshow will inject the dose of weird Asbury Park so welcomes.
MORE: An interview with Emily Kinney
The venue, which APP.com says seats 275 and fits about 500 standing, will feature a mix of live music, theater, dance, film and comedy.
