MILLSTONE -- Authorities have identified the person killed in a single-car crash on Interstate 195 in Millstone on Friday as a Manahawkin resident.

Robert Augustine, 66, was driving east on the highway at 2:18 p.m. when he lost control of his 2005 Toyota and ran off the right side of the road at mile marker 16.2, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams, a State Police spokesman said.

Williams said the car struck several trees and flipped before coming to a stop. Augustine, the only person in the car, was trapped in the vehicle, he said. Augustine was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, he said. The results of toxicology tests are pending, although there is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol as playing a role, Williams said.

The right lane of the road was shut down for two hours while members of the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit were on scene and while the vehicle was removed, he said. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office was also notified, he said.
