It will be the largest reenactment held at Monmouth in many years, featuring well over 400 uniformed British and American troops, in addition to horses and cannons.
The Revolutionary Way will come to life again Sept. 17-18 at Monmouth Battlefield State Park.
Every year in mid June a large scale Revolutionary War reenactment is held at Monmouth Battlefield State Park to commemorate the Revolutionary War battle of Monmouth. This month's reenactment will commemorate the 240th anniversary of the battles in and around New York.
This commemoration is usually held in New York each year but will be held in New Jersey because of the excellent space and facilities available. It will be the largest reenactment held at Monmouth in many years, featuring well over 400 uniformed British and American troops, in addition to horses and cannons. There will also be camps and sutlers along with artillery drills, children's musket drills (using wooden muskets), and demonstrations of cooking, laundry, music, and period medical and hospital practices.
The reenactments will take place on Saturday, Sept 17, at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept 18, at 2 p.m. The Saturday reenactment will recreate the Battle of Brooklyn Heights (also known as the Battle of Long Island), fought on Aug. 27, 1776, and Sunday's reenactment will recreate the Battle of Harlem Heights, fought on Sept. 16, 1776.
The encampment site and programming will be open all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Food vendors will be on site.
A $10 per car donation is asked at the gate to help cover cost of putting on the event. Monmouth Battlefield State Park is located at 16 Business Route 33 in Manalapan, N.J. 07726, Phone: 732-462-9616.
