The threat was quickly deemed unfounded.
SHREWSBURY -- Police investigated a bomb threat at a surgery center on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The threat, reported after 2 p.m., drew a heavy police presence to the Shrewsbury Surgery Center, located at 655 Shrewsbury Ave. As of 4:20 p.m, authorities were still at the building conducting an investigation.
"Law enforcement takes these types of threats very seriously, and I commend our partners in police, fire and EMS for their rapid response in an effort to ensure public safety," Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden said.
The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office's K-9 team performed a sweep of the interior and exterior of the building, and a medical ambulance bus was brought in for assistance, said Cynthia Scott, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.
The building was evacuated as investigators searched the four-story structure, said Charles Webster, spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, Webster said.
