Hundreds of people ran in a 5K and tasted beers at a brew fest, despite sweltering heat. Watch video

Jersey shore residents and visitors refused to stay indoors Saturday, despite an excessive heat warning in effect for most of the state.

Runners in the Asbury Park Sheehan Classic 5K braved the steamy weather for an 8:30 race that ended on the boardwalk, where hundreds of water cups awaited and volunteers sprayed hoses to cool participants down.

At a "Truck"erton Food Truck & Brew Fest in Tuckerton, about a dozen trucks served snacks and beer to people who rolled up their shirt sleeves and donned their sunglasses as temperatures climbed into the 90s.

The National Weather Service forecasted the state's heat index would range from 105 to 110 Saturday.
