State Police say drunken driver was talking on her cell phone, too.

TRENTON -- A woman with a suspended license allegedly side-swiped a state trooper vehicle while driving drunk on along a stretch of highway in Monmouth County on Monday, authorities said.

Kristen Szatmary, 31, was driving a Ford Focus and allegedly talking on her cell phone when she crashed into a troop car just after noon on the southbound side of Highway 35 in Eatontown, State Police said in a statement.

A second trooper driving behind the car that was struck also witnessed the crash, authorities said.

More DWI checkpoints in N.J. this summer

Police performed a field sobriety test and determined she was intoxicated, the statement said. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, reckless driving, and driving while using a cell phone without a hands-free device.

Szatmary, of Brick, was arrested without incident and released pending a court date, authorities said. She could not be reached for comment.

State Police say they are stepping up DWI enforcement as the summer season begins, including regular DWI checkpoints throughout the state.
