BRIELLE -- One person was found dead following a massive blaze that destroyed a two-story home Tuesday morning.

Police responded to the house on North Tamarack Drive at 6:44 a.m., said Brielle police Chief Michael Palmer.

He said when officers arrived, the house was fully involved and they immediately encountered the homeowner. She told police her brother was visiting and he was still inside the home, according to Palmer.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was found dead, Palmer said.

As of 10 a.m., smoke was still emanating from the home but the bulk of the fire was extinguished. Crews worked to tear down what was left of the home's structure.

The fire remains under investigation, and members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office were at the scene.

Firefighters from Point Pleasant, Manasquan and Brielle responded to the blaze.

No additional information was available as of 10 a.m.
