Acme Markets is instead focusing on opening three new store locations.

Acme Markets is planning on closing three stores in the region and focusing on three upcoming stores, according to the company.

The closing stores are in Upper Deerfield Township, New Jersey; Shrewsbury, New Jersey; and Oxford, Pennsylvania.

The three stores will close by April 28, said Danielle D'Elia, spokeswoman for Acme Markets. Each store had a lease that was about to expire, which Acme Markets is choosing not to renew.

The Upper Deerfield Acme is the anchor of a shopping center on Carlls Corner -- outside Bridgeton. There is a Shop Rite located near the Carlls Corner Acme and Bridgeton also has C-Town and Save-A-Lot supermarkets.

A Trader Joe's is located across across Broad Street from the Shrewsbury Acme.

Acme Markets is opening up three new stores in Boonton, New Jersey; Sea Isle City, New Jersey; and Patterson, New York.

Acme Markets is working with affected employees to transfer them into other stores, D'Elia said.

Back in September, a judge allowed Acme Markets to purchase 37 stores in New Jersey from A&P, Pathmark and Superfresh.
