The coastal plain could see 2 to 4 inches of snow.
The National Weather Service on Sunday issued a winter weather advisory for parts of the New Jersey coastal plain.
Monmouth and Ocean counties down through parts of Burlington and Atlantic counties could see 2 to 4 inches of snow accompanied by 10 to 20 mph winds, with gusts up to 30 mph.
The rest of the state is expected to get a lighter snowfall; about 1 to 3 inches.
The precipitation is expected to start as rain this afternoon before changing to wet snow later in the afternoon or evening, the weather service said. The snow will fall the hardest at times between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. before tapering back to flurries by dawn Monday.
Untreated roads are expected to be slippery as wet snow falls and temperatures drop to near freezing. It's possible the snowfall could be heavy enough that main roads need to be plowed, especially around or after midnight.
Snow on branches and wires may also cause power outages, the weather service said.
Monday should be mostly sunny with temperatures rising into the mid 40s in the afternoon, albeit with blustery winds.
