The Joker features a 12-story, 90-degree hill and flips planned to instill a feeling of weightlessness.

JACKSON -- Iron workers on Friday placed the final piece of track on The Joker. Six Flag Great Adventure's new roller coaster.

This "topping off" ceremony by workers from Shamrock Construction in Matawan was 120 feet in the air brings the park's fourteenth roller coaster nearly to completion, the park said

The ride is expected to be open on Memorial Day weekend.

"We really appreciate the hard work by Shamrock Construction, S&S and the rest of the construction team, and we are one step closer to unleashing the spinsanity that is The Joker," park president John Fitzgerald said in a statement.

"It is the perfect addition to our line-up of award-winning roller coasters because The Joker delivers total mayhem with its next-generation, cutting-edge thrills," Fitzgerald said.

Now, construction, maintenance and engineering teams have to install the chain mechanism that will hoist riders to the top, add the five 4D, wing vehicles that will instill a feeling of weightlessness and install the ride controls.

Then the ride goes into testing and state inspections, the park said.

The ride features a 12-story, 90-degree hill and will flip riders head-over-heels at least six times along what the park says is a "weightless journey."
