MARLBORO -- A firefighter received a minor injury Sunday afternoon while fighting a small fire in the basement of a residence.
A homeowner called police at around 1:13 p.m. to report a fire in the basement of her Cheyenne Drive home, Marlboro police Capt. Fred Reck said.
He said the resident said she saw heavy smoke coming from the basement, ran out of the home and called 911.
Police and firefighters arrived at the home and were able to contain the fire to the basement, Reck said. But the home sustained heavy smoke damage, the captain added.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is not considered suspicious, Reck said.
