Father rescued from burning home in Millstone

MILLSTONE -- A man was rescued from the basement of his home after a fire engulfed the kitchen early Sunday morning.

At 4:30 a.m., firefighters from the Millstone Township Fire Company's "B Platoon" responded to a residence on Stillhouse Road for a report of a fire alarm.

Fire Chief Jim Carbin arrived at the scene and confirmed a working fire in the kitchen. He also learned there was a resident still inside the home.

Carbin told the Asbury Park Press that a boy ran outside the home, and told firefighters his father was still inside.

According to the fire company's Facebook page, firefighters entered the home and located the man in the basement. He was rescued and the fire was quickly extinguished.

"Great job by the department and mutual aid companies," read a post on the Millstone Township Uniformed Firefighters Facebook page.

The boy and his father were taken to a local hospital but were released later that day, the Asbury Park Press reported. They were not able to return to the home.

The Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire.
