Dean Strang and Jerry Buting will be at the Count Basie Theatre March 31
"Making a Murderer"defense lawyers Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, the pin-up boys for conspiracy theorists everywhere, will be in Red Bank March 31 for a moderated discussion about the case that has gripped the nation since the Netflix series about the prosecution of Steven Avery debuted late last year.
The lawyers will discuss the systemic failures of the criminal justice system and its implications in the case of Avery, a Wisconsin man who spent 18 years in prison for a sexual assault he did not commit (DNA evidence cleared him).
But he was arrested for the murder of another woman two years after his release -- and not long after he filed a $36 million civil lawsuit against the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office for their possibly maliciously bungled investigation into the initial assault. Strang and Buting argued unsuccessfully that local authorities framed Avery in the death of Teresa Halbach.
Tickets for the event at the Count Basie Theatre, $39.50-$59.50, go on sale at noon on Friday for the event.
