OCEAN TOWNSHIP -- A Lake Como man was arrested for shoplifting after he allegedly stole $200 worth of fragrances, police said.
Mark A. Lawrence, 52, who tried to evade police on bike, was charged with shoplifting, eluding and obstruction.
Detective Lt. Timothy Torchia said police were called to the Target at 10:26 p.m. after receiving a report of man stealing from the store.
When Ocean Township police Officer Ryan Krug arrived, he learned the suspect, later identified as Lawrence, had fled the store on bike, Torchia said.
He said Officer Dean Scoch spotted Lawrence in the area of the Asbury Circle and attempted to stop him.
But Lawrence refused to stop, Torchia said. Officers finally caught up to Lawrence after he fell off his bike.
Following a brief struggle with police, Lawrence was arrested and taken the police headquarters, Torchia said.
Investigators found "numerous" bottles of fragrances worth $200 on Lawrence that he allegedly stole from Target.
Lawrence also had an active warrant out of Neptune City, but police did not specify what the warrant was for.
Lawrence was taken to the Monmouth County jail, where bail was set at $10,000.
