OCEANPORT - Motorists traveling between the borough and Little Silver will face significant detours for several weeks starting Tuesday.
Starting on or about Jan. 12, Oceanport Avenue will be closed to traffic between Silverside Avenue in Little Silver to Main Street in Oceanport due to a New Jersey American Water project on one of the bridges connecting the two municipalities, according to the Oceanport Police Department.

The roadway closure will be in effect Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., throughout the duration of the project.
A detour route will be in place directing drivers in Oceanport to East Main Street south to Port au Peck Avenue. Drivers will then be directed eastbound to Myrtle Avenue and then north across the Gooseneck Bridge into Little Silver, west on Silverside Avenue and then back to Oceanport Avenue.
Drivers traveling in Little Silver will be directed onto Silverside Avenue east to Seven Bridges Road. Divers will be directed to travel south on Myrtle Avenue to Port Au Peck Avenue and then west to Oceanport Avenue.
Motorists are encouraged to utilize Highway 35 north and southbound through Eatontown and Shrewsbury for points north and south of the closure.
The Oceanport Police Department asked the public to plan for extra travel time when traveling in the area of Oceanport and Little Silver during the roadway closure periods and to drive safely.
