MIDDLETOWN -- One person was killed and three others were hospitalized Thursday morning after a pickup truck overturned on the Garden State Parkway, police said.

A Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling southbound in the parkway's local lanes when, for unknown reasons, it lost control shortly before 7 a.m. at mile-marker 110.8, said Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams, a New Jersey State Police spokesman.

Preliminary information gathered by police shows the truck crossed over the express lanes, before it came to a rest overturned in the grass median, Williams said.

One person in the vehicle was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Three other occupants were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

The crash is under investigation. The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Monmouth County Medical Examiner's Office have been notified, Williams said.

Williams said the crash did not cause any significant road closures or traffic backups.

Troopers from the State Police's Holmdel station responded to the scene, along with the State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.

No additional information was immediately available.
