The 52-year-old Long Branch man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Wall Township gas station was arrested in Woodbridge driving a stolen car, police said.
WOODBRIDGE - The 52-year-old Long Branch man wanted in connection with the armed robbery of a Monmouth County Gas station was arrested following a traffic stop in Woodbridge, Wall Township Police Chief Robert Brice announced Tuesday.
At approximately 8 p.m. on Nov. 24, Wall Township police responded to an armed robbery at the Exxon Gas station at Route 35 and 18th Ave.
A white male suspect brandished a silver handgun and demanded cash from the gas station attendant before fleeing in an unknown direction in a silver, mid-sized sport utility vehicle, police said.
Daniel J. Popo, 52, of Long Branch, was subsequently identified as the suspect in the armed robbery, and warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Brice said.
On Friday, Popo was arrested by the Woodbridge Police Department following a motor vehicle stop.
Police said he was operating a stolen vehicle and was found to be in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest.
Popo was lodged in the Middlesex County Correctional facility on charges from Woodbridge Police. He is also being held on $500,000 bail on the charges related to the armed robbery in Wall Township.
