A preliminary investigation found that the man was hit by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler in front of Ursala Plaze just north of Avenel Boulevard, said Charles Webster, a spokesman with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
LONG BRANCH — Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of a 37-year-old city man who was hit by a car near the oceanfront Friday night.
Authorities have not yet released the victim's identity, but offered slightly more information on the incident Monday morning.
Long Branch police responded to Ocean Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m. to a report of a man in the roadway.
Preliminary information gathered by police found that the man was hit by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler in front of Ursala Plaze, just north of Avenel Boulevard, said Charles Webster, a spokesman with the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Police did not immediately charge the driver of the Jeep, only identified as a 19-year-old Long Branch woman. But Webster said the investigation is ongoing.
Long Branch's public safety director, Jason Roebuck, said on Saturday that the driver stopped after the crash.
Ocean Boulevard was closed for approximately five hours while the investigation was being conducted at the scene.
The victim's identity is being withheld until after the family is notified, Webster said.
Authorities asked anyone with information to call Agent Reginald Grant of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office at 800-533-7443 or Cpl. Cesare Simonelli of the Long Branch Police Department at 732-222-1000 ext. 1298.
