Holmdel will pay $80,000 after being accused of hiring two, less qualified men over a now 37-year-old woman
A New Jersey woman whose lawsuit alleged the Holmdel Police Department's decision not hire her was based on gender has reached an $80,000 settlement.
Stephanie Geisel, 37, of Holmdel claimed two less qualified applicants were offered jobs instead of her in 2013 because Chief John Mioduszewski preferred to hire men.
News of the settlement was first reported by NJ Civil Settlements, which provides a partial list of settlements paid by New Jersey government agencies and their insurers to those who have sued them.
Geisel has a bachelors and Master's degree, scored better on the civil service exam than the two men who accepted jobs and had worked as a part-time officer in four other Monmouth County municipalities, the lawsuit states.
She was eventually hired by the neighboring Middletown Police Department in July 2014, according to a report on AHHerlad.com.
A confidentiality clause in the settlement prohibits Geisel or Holmdel officials from commenting.
