'My tweet was inappropriate and disrespectful,' Elise Labott later said
Elise Labott, a CNN global affairs correspondent from New Jersey, has been suspended from her job after posting a tweet about a bill recently passed by the U.S. House of Representatives that will affect Syrian and Iraqi refugees, the Associated Press reports.
The AP, which cited an anonymous CNN executive as a source, reports that the cable news network suspended Labott after for a period of two weeks after she tweeted a CNN story about the House bill Thursday afternoon with the following comment:
"House passes bill that could limit Syrian refugees. Statue of Liberty bows head in anguish."
Labott later apologized for her tweet with another tweet.
"Everyone, It was wrong of me to editorialize," she said Thursday night. "My tweet was inappropriate and disrespectful. I sincerely apologize." Labott's original tweet has been retweeted 4,073 times and has 5,756 likes.
Labott's Twitter biography describes her as a "truth seeker," "weary world traveler" and "proud Jersey girl." The correspondent's CNN profile shows she joined the cable news network in 2000 and has covered the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the protests of the Arab Spring and the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi in 2011.

She began as a foreign affairs reporter and became a global affairs correspondent in 2014.
A Facebook profile for Labott, who is based in Washington D.C., lists her hometown as Marlboro.
