Officers seized crack, heroin and pot following a traffic stop last week, police said
HOWELL TOWNSHIP -- Three men were arrested April 11 and charged with a number of offenses after police allegedly found them in possession of a large amount of heroin as well as other drugs.
Police pulled over a speeding 2017 Chevy Tahoe on Herbertsville Road around 4 p.m., the department said in a statement. The vehicle's owner also had a suspended license, according to a computer check of the plate.
Officers smelled marijuana coming from the Tahoe and ordered the occupants out. The driver, Roosevelt Harris, 38, of Brick Township, consented to a search of the truck after officers said they suspected drug activity, according to the department.
Police allegedly discovered a hidden dashboard compartment containing 500 folds of heroin stamped "Blue Ink" and a package of suspected crack cocaine. Police also recovered $415 in cash and five cell phones.
Harris, who police said also had marijuana in his sock, was arrested, along with Jerel Wallace, 40, of Asbury Park, and 34-year-old Rashon Brown of Brick. Brown was wearing a monitoring device to enforce a court-ordered curfew of 9 p.m. imposed following his recent arrest in Brick Township. Information on that arrest was not immediately available Wednesday.
Brown was also wanted on an active traffic warrant out of Brick.
All three men were charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of crack and possession of crack with intent to distribute. Harris was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drugs in a motor vehicle. The men were held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute.
Police had the Tahoe towed from the scene and will attempt to seize the vehicle through forfeiture.
