TRENTON -- Two days after Catholics celebrated Easter, the Diocese of Trenton celebrated law enforcement with the annual Blue Mass.

The event, which honors and blesses police and prosecutors from Mercer, Burlington, Monmouth and Ocean counties, was lighter in attendance this year, but filled with police pomp and tradition - honor guards, police bands and dress uniforms.

"You are the protectors. You protect people. But who protects you?," Bishop David M. O'Connell said in his homily.

"God," he answered.

Numerous officers and leaders from several local, state and federal agencies attended the Mass, including state Attorney General Christopher Porrino, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni and Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato.

Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Jim Scott, a deacon, assisted in celebrating the Mass.

Trenton Police Director Ernest Parrey Jr., Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson and Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes attended as well.
