Henry "Hank" Daniecki was driving east on Route 526 when his vehicle was struck head-on by a westbound pickup truck.

UPPER FREEHOLD -- A 38-year-old township man died at a New Brunswick hospital Thursday evening after being injured in a collision on Route 526, the New Jersey State Police said.

Henry "Hank" Daniecki was driving east on Route 526 when his Dodge sport-utility vehicle was struck head-on by a westbound vehicle that entered his lane at about 5 p.m.

Daniecki had to be freed from the wrecked vehicle by firefighters, who arranged for a medevac helicopter to fly him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's trauma center.

He was pronounced dead after arriving, the state police said.

The other driver, Steven Minden, 23, of New Egypt, suffered minor injuries. State police said he lost control of his Ford pickup truck on a curve and crossed into the oncoming lane near Red Valley Road.

What caused Minden to lose control at the wheel was under investigation Friday, state police said. Route 526 is called Trenton-Lakewood Road locally.

Daniecki was an engineer at a Toms River company that creates high-performance systems for vehicles, his LinkedIn page says.
