Three people were uninjured Thursday night after their car got stuck on railroad tracks in Long Branch.

LONG BRANCH - A wrong turn reportedly led to collision between a NJ Transit train and a car stuck on the railroad tracks Thursday night.

Three people were traveling in a car on Brighton Avenue shortly after 9 a.m. on Thursday when their car got stuck on the railroad tracks, a NJ Transit spokeswoman said.

The driver went around a large construction barrier in the middle of the road prior to the vehicle getting stuck, she said.

The three adults in were all able to get out of the vehicle and then called police, who in turn alerted the train's engineer who was able to slow the train down, the spokeswoman said.

The train still hit the car, she said, but none of the 20 passengers or crew members aboard the train were hurt.

Service on NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line was suspended for approximately one hour due to the crash.

The driver of the car received summonses for motor vehicle violations and the car was towed from the scene, the NJ Transit spokeswoman said.

The extent of damage to the car was not known as of 1:30 p.m. Friday. However, the damage was believed to have been contained to the driver's side of the vehicle, the spokeswoman said.
