Officials in one Monmouth County town reported that as many as 75 mailboxes were knocked down by snow plows during Tuesday's nor'easter. Watch video
MANALAPAN - As many as 75 mailboxes for township were knocked down by snowplows during Tuesday's nor'easter, according to a NJ1015.com report.
Department of Public Works Director Alan Spector told the radio station that snow plows in the township may have taken down between 50 and 75 mailboxes during the storm due to the accumulation of sleet, snow and rain being difficult to remove.
"Unfortunately, when you're plowing something that heavy, regardless of your speed, it's going to knock stuff over," Spector told NJ1015.com, adding he wasn't making excuses or trying to protect anyone.
Manalapan Township code states that property owners can be reimbursed $50 for parts and labor if work crews destroy a mailbox during required maintenance activities.
The NJ1015.com report came after a Manalapan resident shared a video of a snow plow appearing to take out his mailbox during Tuesday's nor'easter.
Manalapan Mayor Susan Cohen told the radio station that the township is aware of the video and that the Department of Public Works is looking into how fast the snow plow "was actually going and what actually happened."
