The pharmacist took the 37-year-old woman's blood pressure and gave her salt water and sodium tablets until an ambulance arrived
KEANSBURG -- An Keansburg pharmacist helped to save a customer's life last month, according to a report.
Ritesh Shah took the blood pressure of a woman who walked in feeling ill while on her way home from a nearby pizzeria, APP.com reported.
The woman's pressure was extremely low so Shah called an ambulance and gave Katrina Thompson salt water and sodium tablets, keeping her conscious until she could be hospitalized, according to the report.
It turns out Thompson, 37, had a blood clot on her right lung and would have collapsed if she had been home and not gone to the pharmacy for help.
Shah told the Press he learned in pharmacy school that those two items bring up a person's blood pressure.
Thompson returned to the independent Ritesh's Drugsmart Pharmacy on Main Street after spending five days at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel to thank Shah and his employees, the APP.com report said.
