NEPTUNE CITY -- A Brielle man has been charged with shoplifting nearly $1,000 worth of items, including lobster and Red Bull, and trying to steal another $300 worth of the energy drink from a Neptune City grocery store over several visits in January.
In the five times Edward Schools went to the Stop & Shop grocery store to make off with his haul, it was almost always done the same way: load a shopping cart with one type of item and then push it out of the store without paying, according to the police report.
Schools, 49, was charged on Wednesday with four counts of shoplifting, and one count each of trespassing and attempted shoplifting, the report said.
On Jan. 4, he walked out of the store at 9:36 a.m. with $82.68 worth of lobster; on Jan. 9 it was $99.95 worth of Tide laundry detergent at 3:29 p.m.; on Jan. 11 he shoplifted $287.71 worth of Red Bull energy drink at 12:55 p.m. and on Jan. 15 he walked out of the store at 12:18 p.m. with $457.23 worth of seafood and razors, according to the report.
He is accused of trying to steal $298.84 worth of Red Bull, by loading the drink in a cart but not leaving the store with it on Jan. 12, the report said.
