TRENTON -- Two Trenton residents have been accused of counterfeiting and other crimes across four New Jersey counties after they were allegedly caught with hundreds of dollars in phony money during a traffic stop, authorities said.

According to the State Police, Trooper James Porch pulled over a Ford Explorer for a traffic violation in Flemington in Hunterdon County on Wednesday and found marijuana in the vehicle.

The trooper arrested the driver, Michael Owens, 24, and passenger Iziera Johnson, 18.

During a search, troopers found "several hundred dollars" of counterfeit money in her clothing, according to a State Police statement released Thursday.

Detectives at the division's Kingwood Station later linked the pair to counterfeit money cases in Readington, Raritan, and Clinton Townships in Hunterdon County as well as other cases in Somerset, Mercer, and Monmouth Counties, police claim. Johnson had previously been charged in Raritan for passing counterfeit $100 bills at local businesses.

Owens was charged with drug possession and the duo face a range of forgery charges. The United States Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit currency, was also notified, police said.

The two were ordered held on a no-bail warrant at the Hunterdon County jail. It was not immediately clear whether they had attorneys.
