NEW EGYPT -- An 18 year old from Millstone died in a car crash with a tractor-trailer on Monday, authorities said.
The collision happened just after 10 a.m. on Pinehurst Road, said Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Preliminary information gathered by police found that a 19-year-old driver, whose identity was not released, was traveling southbound on Pinehurst Road when for unknown reasons the car veered into the northbound lane, Della Fave said.
The car then crashed into a tractor-trailer, Della Fave said. The impact knocked the tractor-trailer, which was carrying construction materials, off the roadway and into a tree.
The car was occupied by two Millstone teenagers who were heading to Stockton University in Galloway, Della Fave said.
The driver was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The passenger, an unidentified 18-year-old, was pronounced dead.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, only identified as a 73-year-old from Allentown, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.
No additional information was available Monday afternoon.
The crash is under investigation by the Plumsted Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) unit.
