Outages might rise throughout Monday as heavier rain and strong winds continue to pound New Jersey.

Thousands are without power in Monmouth and Ocean counties Monday as a powerful nor'easter approaches New Jersey.
Jersey Central Power & Light reports shortly after 10 a.m. that 2,188 customers in Ocean County are without power, while another 592 customers in Monmouth are experiencing outages.
Atlantic City Electric, which only covers the southern portion of Ocean County, reports shortly after 10 a.m. that less than five customers are affected by power outages.
Across the state, about 6,000 residents are without power as of 10 a.m.
Outages might rise later as heavier rain and strong winds are likely to pound New Jersey Monday afternoon and evening. Some areas in the northwestern part of the state could receive several inches of snow and a coating of ice.
The weather has at least two Monmouth County schools taking precautions. Monmouth Regional High School in Tinton Falls has an early dismissal at 12:18 p.m. and Holmdel Township schools canceled evening activities.

A high wind warning is in effect for Middlesex, Monmouth and Ocean counties from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. A coastal flood warning is also in effect from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday from Middlesex County down to Cape May County. Areas of minor flooding are expected with high tide Monday morning and moderate flooding is expected with the high tides in the afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service said a flood watch is in effect for a wide area stretching from north-central New Jersey southeastward toward Ocean County.
