The suspect was holding up a pharmacy Tuesday night, police said
UPDATE: A suspect was in custody in New York Thursday.
FREEHOLD-- A police officer and a suspect exchanged gunfire during a robbery at an Eatontown pharmacy Tuesday night, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said in a statement.
Police responded to two 9-1-1 calls around 6:43 p.m. at the AllTown Pharmacy on Wyckoff Road. A suspect who demanded prescription drugs from a staff member fled as officers arrived, authorities said.
When police got to the pharmacy, the suspect was running away on foot and fired a gun at an officer. The officer returned fired as the suspect ran to a vehicle in Michaels Plaza. He was last seen travelling on Rt. 36 west.
The suspect was wearing a scarf covering his face, a tan hooded jacket and black gloves and jeans.
