A guide for Election Day 2015 in Monmouth County.

Voters throughout Monmouth County will head to the polls Tuesday to decide more than three dozen contested county and local races.

In the race for Board of Chosen Freeholders, Democrat Carol Rizzo, a political newcomer, is looking to unseat incumbent Republican John P. Curley, who is running for his third term. Republicans currently control every seat on the five-member board.

Meanwhile, county Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, a Republican, is seeking her first full five-year term after she replaced long-time county clerk Claire French, who retired in March. Hanlon's challenger is Kevin A. Kane, a 14-year Democratic councilman from Freehold Borough. Read our preview of this election.

There are also handful of State Assembly elections. In District 11, incumbent Republicans Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande are facing Democratic challengers Joann Downey and Eric Houghtaling.

In District 13, incumbent Republicans Amy H. Handlin and Declan O'Scanlon are running against Democratic challengers Jeanne Cullinane and Thomas Herman as well as independent candidate Joshua Leinsdorf.

Incumbents Robert D. Clifton and Ronald S. Dancer, both Republicans, are vying for re-election in the state's 12th District against Democrats David W. Merwin and Robert P. Kurzydlowski and Green Party candidate Stephen N. Zielinksi

In District 30, Republican incumbents Sean T. Kean and David P. Rible are facing Democrats Jim Keady and Lorna Phillipson, as well as independent Hank Schroeder.

Here are other contested races in Monmouth County:

ABERDEEN

Four seats are open in the five-person Township Council. Incumbents Robert L. Swindle and Concetta B. Kelley, both Democrats, are looking to fill two of those seats. Gregory J. Cannon and Arthur S. Hirsch round out the Democrats, while there are four Republicans in the race: Edward A. Failla, Lyle H. Himmel, John Gartley and Deborah A. Whalen-Casler.

ALLENTOWN

In the race for mayor, Democrat William Borkowski doesn't have a Republican challenger; however, he faces opposition from independent Gregory J. Westfall of the Allentown First group.

Two members of Allentown First, Johnna Stinemire and Robert E. Stratovinksy, are running against Democrats Thomas Fritts and Barbara Hallmark for two seats on the Borough Council.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS

The race for mayor features Republican Councilman John C. Archibald and Democrat Rhonda LeGrice.

Four candidate are vying for two open seats on the Borough Council: Democrats Roy Dellosso and Charles R. Lero and Republicans France Karras and James Krauss.

AVON-BY-THE-SEA

Six non-partisan candidates are vying for three spots on the Board of Commissioners: Mayor Robert Mahon, Robert McGovern and Frank Gorman, both incumbents, John B. Magrini, Lawrence J. Mason, Jr., and Ken Bruton.

BELMAR

Incumbent Democrat Jennifer Nicolay is running against Republican Thomas E. Burke and independent David Schneck for one open seat on the Borough Council.

EATONTOWN

Six candidates are vying for two Borough Council seats, with one incumbent, Anthony Talerico, an independent, seeking re-election. The Democrats are Tiffany Miller and Judith M. Bretzger; Edmund F. Fitterer and Douglas Ronan are the Republicans in the race, while Virginia M. East is also running as an independent.

FAIR HAVEN

The race for two open Borough Council seats features Democrat Shervyn J. von Hoerl challenging incumbent Republicans Eric R. Jaeger and Robert Marchese.

FARMINGDALE

In the mayor's race, Democrat William "Beau" Byrtus is looking to unseat Republican incumbent John P. "Jay" Morgan.

Two Democrats, Bonnie M. Wright and Jan Zientek, are challenging Republican incumbents James A. Daly and Patricia A. Linszky for two open full-term seats on the Borough Council. Daly is currently the council president.

FREEHOLD BOROUGH

Democrat incumbents Ronald Griffiths and Sharon Shutzer are seeking re-election on the Borough Council. They face Republican challengers Robert Gibbons and Michael Gill.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP

Mayor Thomas L. Cook and Deputy Mayor Anthony J. Ammiano, both Republicans, are vying for two seats on the Township Committee against Democrats Doris Lin and Haven Franklin.

HAZLET

Republicans Thomas G. Mann and William Shea are running against Democratic incumbents James DiNardo and Barbara Ronchetti for two open seats on the Township Committee.

HIGHLANDS BOROUGH

Five non-partisan candidates are vying for two seats on the Borough Council: incumbents Kevin Redmond and Tara K. Ryan-Killeen, Carolyn Broullon, Claudette D'Arrigo and William Caizza.

HOLMDEL

Republican incumbent Thomas Critelli is running against Democrat Karen Strickland for one open seat on the Township Committee.

KEYPORT

Two Democratic incumbents, Matthew Goode and Sophia Lamberson, face Republican challengers Gaylee I. Benedict and Jacqueline Dawn Kovacs for two open seats on the Borough Council.

MANALAPAN

The race for one seat on the Township Committee is between Democrat David Kane and Republican Rebecca Ginsberg.

MANASQUAN

The race for two seats on the Borough Council features incumbent Councilman Gregg Olivera, Republican Robert K. Ferrante, and Democrats James Walsh and Donald Cresitello.

MARLBORO

In the race for mayor, incumbent Jonathan L. Hornik, a Democrat, is taking on Republican Ira Goldberg.

Incumbents Randi Marder and Michael Scalea, both Democrats, face Republicans John Dwyer and Sui Y. Allex for two open seats on the Township Council.

MATAWAN

Democrat Joseph Altomonte seeks to unseat Republican incumbent Paul Buccellato in the race for mayor. 

The race for two seats on the Borough Council is between Republicans Daria Dieterle and incumbent Andrew Lopez and Democrats Nicolas Reeve and Mike Vergaretti.

MIDDLETOWN

Deputy Mayor Stephen G. Massell, a Republican, is vying for one open seat on the Township Committee against Democrat Kevin Schwake.

MILLSTONE

Incumbent Republicans Gary B. Dorfman and Nancy A. Grbelja are vying for re-election against Democrat Raymond D. Dothard, Jr., in the race for Township Committee.

NEPTUNE CITY

In the race for mayor, Republican incumbent Robert J. Brown is taking on Democrat Pamela Renee, who is currently on the Borough Council.

Neptune City has four candidates running for two full-term Borough Council seats: Democrats Beryl A. Lyford and Michael Skudera, and incumbent Republican Richard Pryor and Andrew Wardell, also a Republican. In the race for a two-year unexpired term on the Borough Council, Democratic incumbent Linda Brady is facing off against Republican Barbara Shafer.

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP

There are four candidates seeking two open Township Committee seats: incumbent Michael Brantley, Democrat Nicholas Williams, Dianne Harris and Kevin Sheehan, both of the group Coalition 4 Change.

OCEANPORT BOROUGH

Republican incumbent Michael J. Mahon doesn't have a Democratic challenger in the race for mayor, but he faces opposition from write-in candidate John "Jay" Coffey, who currently sits on the Board of Education.

Cullin Wible, also a write-in candidate, is looking to claim a council seat.

RED BANK

There are four candidates vying for two open seats on the Borough Council: incumbent Michael DuPont and Michael K. Ballard, both Democrats, and Republicans Mark D. Taylor and Michael P. Whelan.

ROOSEVELT BOROUGH

Republican Larry Cheshier is vying for one of two open full-term seats on the Borough Council. He faces Democratic challengers Thomas Curry and Jill Lipoti.

RUMSON

Incumbent Republican John E. Ekdahl seeks re-election in the race for mayor against Democrat Michael Steinhorn.

SHREWSBURY TOWNSHIP

Edward D. Nolan, a Democrat, faces Republican David Mazan for one open seat on the Township Committee.

SPRING LAKE BOROUGH

The race for two open seats on the Borough Council features incumbent Councilwoman Janice Venables and Robert Drasheff, both Democrats, and Republicans John A. Fudge and Edwin J. Hale.

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS

In the race for mayor, two councilmen, Republican Christopher Campion and Democrat Thomas P. O'Brien, are squaring off against each other.

Democrats Arthur Herner and Nathaniel "Nate" Novak, Republican Robert T. Merriken and incumbent Sara J. King, the council president, are vying for two seats on the Borough Council.

UNION BEACH

Incumbent Mayor Paul J. Smith, Jr., a Republican, faces Shane "Simone" Dannecker, a Democrat, in the borough's mayoral race.

In the race for Borough Council, Democrats Ryan Sobin and Stacy Feliciano are vying for two seats against Republican incumbents Albin J. Wicki and Charles W. Cocuzza.

WEST LONG BRANCH

Democrat Katharine D. Boneburg seeks to pick up one of two open seats on the Borough Council against Republicans Susan Juliano and John M. Penta.

Voters will also cast a vote in more than two dozen contested Board of Education races throughout the county.
