ALLENTOWN -- An Allentown High School student was suspended after posting a racially charged photo on social media a day after the presidential election, school officials said.
The photo showed black Allentown High School students waiting in line in the cafeteria with a caption that read, "Last Free Meal," according to a letter written to the school community.
The letter was signed by superintendent Richard Fitzpatrick, principal Constance DeNecola Embley and the school's two vice-principals.
The school said students of many racial background reported the photo and described the photo caption as "appalling." Officials at Allentown High also classified the incident as one of harassment, intimidation and bullying in notifying the superintendent, according to the letter.
District officials informed State Police a bias incident took place.
Allentown High School is part of the Upper Freehold Regional School District and serves students from Allentown, Upper Freehold and Millstone Township.
More than 83 percent of the school's 1,256 students in the 2014-15 school year were white, according to department of education statistics. About 5.7 percent were black.
Republican President-elect Donald Trump won the popular vote in Millstone and Upper Freehold with 64.6 and 60.4 percent, respectively. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton collected 51.2 percent of the votes in Allentown to win the borough.
