The woman was a victim of a domestic dispute inside the Ocean Township home, authorities said.

OCEAN TWP. -- A man was charged with attempted murder and other weapons offenses after authorities say he stabbed a woman multiple times inside a Rubin Lane home Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to the home after multiple 911 calls were made around 3 p.m. reporting a stabbing at a home, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Charles Webster said.

When police arrived, they located a 50-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds, Webster said. He said the woman, who was not identified, was a victim of a domestic dispute at the home.

She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she underwent emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries. She is currently listed in stable condition.

The man, who was only identified as a 60-year-old male, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault on a police officer.

Ocean Township police said the man spit on one of the officers who tried to arrest him.

He was taken to the Monmouth County Jail and bail was set at $400,000 with no 10-percent option. A judge ordered the man to have no contact with the victim and he is not permitted to return back to the home.

Authorities said the suspect's name will not be released because the incident was a domestic dispute. No additional information was made available Thursday morning.

The home was located inside Cedar Village at Ocean, an age-restricted community. Residents in the area described the neighborhood as quiet but said the Rubin Lane home where the stabbing occurred is frequently visited by police.

Elliot Fabricant, president of the homeowners association at Cedar Village at Ocean, lives directly next door to the home where the stabbing occurred.

"There was apparently some kind of dispute among the residents, but that's all we've been told about it," he said.

Fabricant said the home's occupants have lived there for approximately five years and that the police are often at the home.

"The police have been there at least 30 times, if not more," he said.

Rich Wilson, who lives two doors down from the Rubin Lane home, said the age-restricted community is quiet other than the frequent police visits to the home.

"We're all old people," Wilson said. "So other than that house, there's never any issues here."

Wilson said his wife was playing cards with friends down the street when two police cars and ambulances drove by on Wednesday afternoon.

"Everyone knew where they were going," he said, adding the police activity at the home seemed to be occurring more often in recent weeks.
