Howell Township police are searching the person who allegedly robbed a Route 9 shoe store at gunpoint on Monday night.

HOWELL - Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in Monday night armed robbery of a Howell shoe store.

A man brandishing a black handgun entered the Shoe Palace store on Route 9 north at 6 p.m. Monday and ordered everyone to the ground, Howell police said. The customers included children, police said.

The gunman was described as a black male, about 6-feet tall with a muscular build and wearing a black North Face sweatshirt and black flannel-style pants, police said.

The man pointed the gun at the clerk behind the counter and demanded cash from the register. The clerk gave him the money and the gunman on foot westbound across Route 9, toward Ford Road, police said.

Surveillance footage from the area shows the man walked to the store from an adjacent commercial lot, police said. He was observed by the store employees walking back and forth multiple times before he entered the store, police said.

Patrol officers responded, established an area perimeter with the assistance of a K9 unit, but were unable to locate the man.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Howell Township Police Department Detective Anthony Romano at 732-938-4575 ext. 2879 or by e-mail at aromano@howellpolice.org
