MARLBORO -- Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that shutdown Route 18 southbound for approximately five hours Monday morning.
A pedestrian was struck and killed on the highway right under the County Road 520 overpass, Capt. Fred Reck said.
Marlboro police responded to the crash shortly after 4 a.m. and closed down the southbound lanes on Route 18 for the investigation until 8:45 a.m., Reck said.
Reck did not have any additional information on the crash.
Charles Webster, a Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesman, said more information would be released after the victim's family is notified.

The Marlboro Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Unit are conducting the investigation.
