Pedestrian killed in crash outside school, cops say

The victim was walking near Christian Brothers Academy when the crash occurred, police said

MIDDLETOWN -- A man was killed Wednesday afternoon while walking near Christian Brothers Academy in Middletown, authorities said.

Investigators have not yet revealed the age of the victim but said he was not a student at the school.

Middletown Detective Lt. Paul Bailey said a vehicle hit the man outside the school at 850 Newman Springs Rd. in the Lincroft section of town at 1:36 p.m.

He said the driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the police investigation, which is being handled by Officer Michael Reuter of the department's traffic safety unit.
