WALL TWP. -- A family dog died in a fire that gutted the inside of a house on Friday, police said.

Police responded to a home on Leslie Street shortly before 4 p.m. for a report of a structure fire at a private residence.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but the family's dog was found dead inside, Chief Robert L. Brice said in a news release.

On Monday, yellow police tape lined the property where Halloween decorations dangled from a boarded up house. The structure of the house still stands, however, the fire severely damaged in the inside.

Glendola, West Belmar and South Wall fire companies worked to extinguish the fire. Wall Township EMS, Tinton Falls Fire Company and Jersey Central Power and Light and New Jersey Natural Gas also responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Wall Township Police Detective Bureau, Wall Fire Prevention and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office.

No additional information was available Monday morning.
