Middletown police say they removed and safely disposed of needles found in

MIDDLETOWN - The Middletown Police Department says officers have removed approximately a dozen needles found in a township park.

In a Facebook post with the label "Rumor Control", the police department responded to a photo circulating on social media of needles found in McMahon Park.

"Police have already removed and safely disposed of the needles in this picture," the post said. "The gauge and type of needles found would be categorized as intramuscular, which are not associated with intravenous drug use."

News 12 reported that approximately a dozen bloody needles were found inside a former hockey rink at the park.

Other signs of drug use, empty alcohol containers, used condoms, graffiti and a strong odor of urine were also found at the park, the television station reported.

The police department said the needles were found in an area that is closed to the public and where no trespassing signs are posted.

"Police routinely patrol the area," the Facebook post said.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity in the township is asked to report it by calling 732-615-2100.
