Robby Andrews, who starred at New Jersey's Manalapan High School, ran 3:46.97 to place third in his 1,500-meter qualifying heat on Tuesday to advance to the semifinal round at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Andrews, a 2009 graduate of Manalapan, will aim for a spot in the final when he runs in the semifinals on Thursday. The top five finishers in the 2 semifinal races plus the next two fastest runners will advance to the 12-runner final, which isc scheduled for Saturday.
The 25 year-old Andrews finished fourth in the 1,500 at the World Indoor Championships this past March, and qualified for his first Olympic Games by placing second to Matt Centrowitz at the Olympic Trials last month.
