The new plans are not official and could change.

EATONTOWN -- The Kushner Companies is in talks with borough officials to revisit its plan to redevelop the Monmouth Mall, according to a published report.

The news comes three months after a representative with Kushner walked out of a raucous council meeting, abandoning its $500 million plan to transform the shopping mall into a sprawling mix of retail and residential spaces, including a hotel.

Residents in the borough strongly resisted the proposed changes. Calling the meeting a "sad day," Mayor Dennis Connelly attributed Kushner's decision to abandon the plan to misinformation spread by certain groups of residents.

But apparently officials are revisiting the plans with the Kushner Companies, which is owned by Jared Kushner, son-in-law to Donald Trump.

Kushner officials have scaled down their plans, most notably removing the amount of affordable housing units and abandoning the hotel, according to a report published on wordontheshore.com

"I'm very pleased with the dialogue between the Kushner Companies and our borough professionals and I feel that they have been moving in a positive direction," Connelly said at a July 27 council meeting, according to the local news site.

The plans also call for less apartment units, stricter limits on building heights and bars schools or houses of worship from being on the property, the report said.

It's unclear how much the new project will cost, and officials said the plans could change.

A representative with Kushner Companies could not be immediately reached for comment.
