Pastrami, corned beef, brisket, tongue, chopped liver and the best chicken salad around are barely contained by two slices of rye bread.
Big is always better, at least at Richard's Deli -- where our tour of ethnic eateries at the Jersey Shore continues.
Richard's Deli | 155 Brighton Ave., Long Branch | (732) 870-9133 | richardsdelinj.com
For a jaw-stretching sandwich experience, there is no match for Richard's mile-high magnificence. Pastrami, corned beef, brisket, tongue, chopped liver and the best chicken salad around are barely contained by two slices of rye bread at this Long Branch spot. Order them Shore-style, if you dare, and they'll be doused with Russian dressing and coleslaw. Be prepared with the napkins!
MORE: Global food at the Jersey Shore
If using a fork is more your thing, it is all you'll need to cut the meltingly tender brisket tucked between crisp potato pancakes. The complimentary tray of pickles, coleslaw and macaroni salad that arrive at the table to snack on before the food arrives are worth the trip alone. Breakfast on giant omelettes and bagel platters dressed up with a schmear, lox or whitefish. Sometimes, you just need some alone time with a restorative bowl of matzo ball soup. They can do that, too.
