LAKE COMO - Want a free ride home from Bar Anticipation on the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend?
Get ready to take a breathalyzer.
Uber New Jersey and the John R. Elliott HERO Campaign announced on Thursday a new initiative to promote safe alternatives to drunk driving on the Jersey Shore this summer.
As part of that campaign, Bar Anticipation will host a breathalyzer kiosk on Friday night that will provide a free Uber ride for anyone who blows over the legal limit.
From 9 p.m. to 12 a.m., anyone can stop by the kiosk in front of Bar A, where they will be provided straws to blow into the kiosk and test their blood alcohol level. If a patron blows over the legal limit, they'll receive a code for a free Uber ride for up to $30.
"Our number one goal on the Shore this summer is to make sure that a safe ride home is always available within minutes," Ana Mahony, general manager of Uber New Jersey, said in a news release. "When people have safe options like Uber, the smart choice is an easy one."
Meanwhile, the HERO Campaign will renew its efforts on the Jersey Shore to sign up designated drivers, including those on the Uber platform, by asking them take the HERO Pledge on its website.
Those who take the pledge will receive a HERO Designated Driver Membership Card that can be used to claim free, non-alcoholic soft drinks at participating HERO bars and taverns.
"We have a responsibility to do all we can to reduce drunk driving on the Shore and throughout New Jersey," HERO Campaign Chairman Bill Elliott, said in a release. "Whether you're taking Uber or getting a ride from a friend, there's never any reason to drive while intoxicated."
