The driver, 47-year-old Bettina Policari of Matawan, was charged with DWI and released pending a future court date, a Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office spokesman said.
MATAWAN -- A 19-year-old Newark man is in critical condition after a drunken driver struck him with her vehicle Monday night, authorities said.
The man, who authorities did not identify, was crossing route 79 near the Claire Court intersection when he was hit shortly after 8 p.m. by a 2015 Toyota Corolla, said Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
The driver of the Corolla, 47-year-old Bettina Policari of Matawan, was charged with DWI and released pending a future court date, Webster said.
The Newark man was flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he is listed in critical condition.
The incident is under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and the Matawan Police Department.
