FREEHOLD -- A motorcyclist was killed Saturday afternoon when he went off a rural township road and crashed into a tree, police said.

The driver, who was in his 20s, was traveling south on Nomoco Road about 1:15 p.m. when he came to a turn in the road, crossed into the nortbound lane and continued off the side of the street, said Freehold Patrolman Joseph Winowski.

"He was attempting to negotiate a turn when he went off the road," Winowski said.

He said the accident occurred about a mile south of Georgia Road.

Winowski said police were still trying to contact family members and the name of the motorcyclist was not yet being released.

Police are still investigating the accident and have not yet determined what factors contributed to the crash, the officer said.
