Abel Gomez Jimenez, 21, of Neptune City, was in the intensive care unit of a local hospital as of Sunday morning, police said.
AVON-BY-THE-SEA -- A 21-year-old Neptune City man was riding his bicycle Saturday afternoon when was hit by a car door, causing him to fall and smack his head, police said.
Abel Gomez Jimenez, who was heading southbound on Main Street towards Belmar, was in the intensive care unit of Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune in stable condition as of Sunday morning, said Avon police Chief Terence P. Mahon.
Roberta Collins, 75, of Loch Arbour, was parked on Main Street and was heading to the Macaroon Shop when she opened her car door. The car door clipped Gomez Jimenez's bicycle shortly after 2 p.m., causing him to fall off the bike and hit his head, Mahon said.
When police responded, Gomez Jimenez was conscious but taken to the hospital for his head injury, Mahon said.
